Japanese Breakfast is the name of the two times grammy nominee indie pop band lead by Michelle Zauner. Here we have their live performance of their song "Boyish". What I love about this specific rendition is that it does not sound perfect. Like with most song that are produced at a studio, the sound quality gets refined until it is made to be heard by the masses. The sound where the lead singers voice fades away a bit early or cracks is not something that usually makes it to the final cut.
The live performance of this songs gives us insight on the so called imperfections in music that are constantly being hidden. I felt that the song felt more authentic and real to me. That there was actually a person who was singing a song to sing a song. What's more, we see how fun performing is for the band and Michelle. We see her grinning and swaying along with the music.

This song is featured in the bands album "Soft Sounds From Another Planet". Some of the more noticeable changes from this live version of the song to the studio version is the inclusion of harmonies and other instruments. I personally prefer the live version. The addition to the harp sounds and harmonies make the song more angelic and alien like to me. It a sound that I am not used to hearing, in a good way, of course. Either way, the song is a delight and this performance deserves more attention than it gets!
